NOTABLE ARRESTS/INCIDENTS

On 3/9/11 at approximately 5:30PM Officer Justin Fisher was utilizing the automated license plate reader on Rt. 6 when it alerted him that a vehicle was identified as having a suspended registration.  A traffic stop was conducted and a computer check with the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles revealed that the registration was suspended as well as the driver's license.  The driver, Harry Tibbetts age 68 a Mahopac resident, was placed under arrest and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 3rd Degree; being an Unlicensed Driver; and Driving a Vehicle with a Suspended Registration.  Mr. Tibbetts was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on 4/11/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Joseph Spofford.

On 3/9/11 at approximately 9:20 PM Officer Justin Fisher observed a vehicle speeding on East Lake Blvd. The driver also failed to utilize his turn signals while executing two turns onto different roadways.  A traffic stop was conducted and after interviewing the driver and conducting field sobriety tests, the driver was placed under arrest.  The driver, Raymond Fishetti age 48 a Mahopac resident, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated; Driving with more than .08 per cent blood alcohol; Unreasonable Speed and two counts of Failure to Use Turn Signals.  Mr. Fishetti was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court

On 3/12/11 at approximately 3:35 AM Sergeant Edward Dazi and Officer Kevin Murphy responded to the Olympic Diner on a report of disturbance.  Apparently a customer, for no apparent reason, picked up a chair and threw it at some other customers sitting nearby.  The chair broke numerous plates and dishes.  The customer then fled the diner and began running towards a wooded area near Mavis Tire located on Miller Road.  The suspect, Russell Nuzzaro age 36 a resident of Hopewell Junction, was ordered to stop and complied with Officer Murphy's order.  He was placed under arrest and charged with Criminal Mischief 4th Degree and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.  Mr. Nuzzaro was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear on 4/11/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Joseph Spofford.

On 4/9/11 at approximately 2 AM Officers James Terrazas and Brian Shay observed two males attempting to enter an apartment on Cherry Lane with a street sign attached to a 10 foot metal post.  The two suspects, Wiflfredo Reyes age 29 and Javier Guardado Reyes age 26, both Mahopac residents were apparently under the influence of alcohol.  They advised the officers that they found the sign along Rt. 6.  The sign designates a crosswalk and has an image of a person walking.  The two defendants are charged with Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree.  They were issued appearance tickets and released on their own recognizance.  Both defendants are scheduled to appear in court on 5/9/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Joseph Spofford.

On 4/18/11 at approximately 3:20 PM Officer Richard Rosario observed a vehicle being operated with non-transparent material on the windows.  A traffic stop was conducted and the officer observed a female in the passenger seat who he recognized as a possible suspect who had stolen a beer from a grocery store on 4/1/11.  Upon questioning the 17 year old Purdy's resident, she made verbal admissions with regards to the theft.
She was placed under arrest and charged with Petit Larceny.  The defendant was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on 5/23/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Joseph Spofford.

On 4/27/11 at approximately 5 PM Carmel Police Officers James Terrazas and Michel Sheil responded to a local alcohol and drug treatment center on a report of a patient receiving illegal drugs in the mail.  Alert security officers at the facility received information that a patient was expecting a drug shipment in the mail that he was about to receive.  The mail was opened in the presence of the security officers and the patient, enclosed in the card were ten decks of heroin.  The patient admitted that the drugs were intended for his use, and that he also intended on selling them to other patients.  The suspect, Daniel Ufares age 48 a Ridgewood New York resident, was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and Conspiracy in the 3rd Degree.  Mr. Ufares was arraigned by Town Justice Tom Jacobellis and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.  He is scheduled to appear in court before Town Justice Tom Jacobellis on May 24 at 6 PM.

The Town of Carmel Special Conditions Unit, consisting of Police Officers James Terrazas and Brian Shay, received information regarding two separate suspects selling prescription medications in the Town of Carmel.  On 5/26/11 John Connors, age 20 a resident of Peekskill, was observed by the officers selling pills on Secor Road.  The pills were identified as Endocet a DEA Schedule 2 narcotic analgesic.  Mr. Connors is charged with Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree and Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree.  He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on 6/27/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Joseph Spofford. 

The second suspect was the target of a six month investigation by the Special Conditions Unit into narcotic sales in the Town of Carmel.  On four separate occasions dating back to December 2010 the suspect sold various amounts of drugs.  The drugs were identified as pills of Roxicodone.  The suspect, Michael DeMarco age 22 a Brewster resident, was placed under arrest on 5/31/11, and while taking an inventory of  his vehicle additional drugs were located consisting of suboxone sublingual film—which is a DEA Schedule 3 Drug.  Mr. DeMarco is charged with 4 counts of Sale of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (Class B Felonies), 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree (Class B Felonies), and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).  Mr. DeMarco was arraigned by Town Justice Tom Jacobellis and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.  He is scheduled to appear in court on 6/14/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Tom Jacobellis.

On 5/31/11 at approximately 4 PM Detective Robert Bagnarol responded to a residence in Verplank, New York and arrested Joseph Crawford, age 29, on a charge of Petit Larceny.  Mr. Crawford was allegedly videotaped on 5/1/11 stealing scrap metal and radiators from an auto repair shop located on Rt. 118.  Mr. Crawford was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on 6/27/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Joseph Spofford.

The Town of Carmel Police Department received a phone call from Dennis Meehan a resident of Rye on 6/23/11, who advised the dispatcher that he had found a bank deposit bag which he believed he had found on Stoneleigh Avenue.  Mr. Meehan observed the deposit bag in the middle of the road during the pouring rain storm on 6/23/11 at approximately 2:30 PM and retrieved same.  The bank bag had deposits slips in the name of a Somers resident, amounting to approximately $3700 in cash and $2000 in various checks.  Mr. Meehan contacted the owner of the money and they arranged to have the money turned into the Carmel Police Department the next day.  Mr. Meehan responded to the police station and dropped the bank bag and its contents off at the police station, and it was later ascertained that the bag was found by him on Rt. 100 in the Town of Somers.  Interviewing the owner of the money, it was ascertained that he had inadvertently left the money bag on the roof of his car and drove off from his residence in Somers intending to deposit the money at the bank in Goldens Bridge.  The Somers resident realizing his mistake drove back and forth several times between his residence and the bank with no success in locating the deposit bag.   This morning the Somers resident responded to the police station to pick up his property and advised the officers that he will be contacting Mr. Meehan to express his gratitude.

On 7/7/11 at approximately 9:20 PM Officer Thomas Johanson conducted a traffic stop of a truck for vehicle and traffic violations at East Lake Blvd. and Rt. 6.  The driver apparently sped through the intersection nearly striking a fire police officer who was directing traffic at the Mahopac Fire Department Annual Carnival.  The officer upon approaching the vehicle smelled marijuana emanating from the truck.  Officers Brian Shay and James Terrazas responded to assist him with the traffic stop.  A marijuana cigarette was observed in the lap of the driver and upon asking the driver to exit the vehicle two bags of white powdery substance were observed in the door pocket.  Interviewing the other passengers revealed that they all individually possessed either marijuana or cocaine.  The driver, Andrew Ouelette age 21 a Lake Peekskill resident was charged with two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Sale of a Controlled Substance 3 rd Degree,  Possession of Marijuana 5th Degree; Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, and Unreasonable Speed.  The front seat passenger Melissa Young age 20 a Carmel resident, was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd Degree.  She possessed two forged New Jersey Driver's licenses.  A 17 year old male Peekskill resident was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.
The fourth individual, Michael Soboleski age 25 a Cortland Manor resident, was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 7th Degree.  Mr. Ouelette was arraigned before Town Justice Tom Jacobellis and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.  The other three defendants were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear in court on 8/16/11 at 6 PM before Town Justice Tom Jacobellis.
