Residents who operate vehicles on Town roads rely on the Highway Department to keep them moving. The Town of Carmel Highway Department maintains more than 175 miles of roadway. In addition, hundreds of catch basins are maintained, as well as, miles of storm water drains. The Highway Department also assists in the removal of trees that have fallen in severe weather and clears dead animals from Town roads.

SPRING SWEEPING

Each spring, the Town of Carmel schedules a Town wide sweeping of all roads.

TREE REMOVAL

The area 10 feet back from the edge of the roadway is known as the Town right-of-way. Any work being done in this area by a homeowner or utility company requires a permit from the Town of Carmel Highway Department. On request, the Highway Department will remove dead trees within the Town right-of-way.

POT HOLE REPAIR

Potholes should be reported directly to the Highway Department at (845) 628-7474. Residents should provide the exact street address and the nearest cross street.

STORM WATER DRAINS

Storm drains are for the runoff of rain water and snow. Should you notice a storm drain that is clogged or in need of repair, please notify the Highway Department immediately at (845) 628-7474.

FALL

Residents are responsible for the removal of leaves on their own property. Leaves should be bagged and may be brought to the Town of Carmel Recycling Center. At no time should leaves be raked or blown into the roadways.

SNOW REMOVAL

During the period of November 15 through April 15, residents are asked to remove their vehicles from roadways. At no time should snow from your driveway or walkway be pushed or blown on to Town roads.
